Toyota Innova HyCross Hybrid To Be Sold Alongside Innova Crysta

Toyota Innova HyCross will likely go on sale around January 2023 in India and it will boast a 2.0-litre hybrid petrol engine with high fuel efficiency

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) will host the global debut of the Innova HyCross in India around November 2022 ahead of its market launch in January 2023. It could be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo but no official confirmation has been made yet. It will be available in India as well as international markets like Indonesia where it could be dubbed the Innova Zenix.

The latest Toyota Innova Crysta was launched locally in 2016 and it has been a huge success for the Japanese auto major. The upcoming MPV will be completely different though and it will likely be sold against the Crysta. It will be underpinned by the new monocoque chassis as the existing body-on-frame construction will be ditched.

The arrival of the modular TNGA-C architecture meant that the third generation Innova will move from a rear-wheel drive configuration to the traditional front-wheel drive layout. Likely christened the Innova HyCross, it is expected to feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine working in tandem with a heavily localised hybrid system.

It will likely have similar technology to the soon-launching Urban Cruiser Hyryder but expect higher power and torque outputs and better fuel economy. The 2023 Toyota Innova HyCross could have several commonalities with the latest global Corolla Cross and its design could be heavily influenced by the Toyota MPVs sold in the international markets.

It will likely be retailed in seven- and eight-seater variants and expect the overall length to be around 4.7 metres with the wheelbase stretching to 2,850 mm. It will be slightly longer than the Crysta and the presence of a monocoque chassis could help in liberating more space for the occupants inside the cabin.

The interior could be more upmarket than the Crysta with the presence of a larger touchscreen infotainment system with connected tech, a new dashboard and centre console, automatic climate control, cruise control, engine start/stop button, a 360-degree camera system, six airbags, a wireless charging facility and a suite of assistive and safety technologies amongst others.
