In 2007, following his début as an actor, he made his first film appearance as the eponymous angel in “Gabriel,” a supernatural action-drama film.

Whitfield began appearing in guest roles on various television programmes until he was appointed in the New Zealand-filmed role of Spartacus. He also appeared alongside Tabrett Bethel in “The Clinic,” a Deniliquin-filmed Australian thriller starring Tabrett Bethel. In 2010, Whitfield and Freddie Wong recorded a two-minute YouTube video titled “Time Crisis,” a soundtrack for the eponymous video game series. This caused the production to be halted and delayed the publication of the second season of “Spartacus: Vengeance.” In June 2010, he was declared cancer-free; however, during a routine examination in September of the same year, a relapse was discovered. Whitfield passed away 18 months after his initial diagnosis, surrounded by his loved ones.
