Bailey attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville as a child (U.A.H.). She also competed in beauty pageants and was crowned the first African-American homecoming queen at Deshler High School. After accomplishing this, she competed in a homecoming queen contest. Despite her loss in the competition, she was approached by a talent scout from Wilhelmina Models. Bailey signed a contract with the agency and moved to New York as a result. She soon appeared on the cover of “Essence” magazine, the best-selling cover in the publication’s history.

Bailey then moved to Milan and Paris, where she effortlessly walked the runways during Fashion Week. Eventually, she returned to New York and landed advertising contracts with Macy’s, Oil of Olay, and Maybelline. She was featured in Elle, Glamour, Vanity Fair, and Vogue, among others.

Bailey and her then-boyfriend Leon Robinson had a daughter. She wed Peter Thomas in 2010, and their marriage lasted seven years. In 2018, Bailey pursued entrepreneurship once more by launching two accessory lines: Cynthia Bailey Eyewear and Cargo. After the dissolution of her first marriage in 2017, Bailey remarried in 2020 to television personality Mike Hill. She has appeared in numerous television shows, music videos, and films over the years. She also owns The Bailey Room, an event space, and The Bailey Wine Cellar, a wine bar. She finished third on the third season of “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2022.
