Floyd Mayweather Biography: Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr., an American boxing promoter and former professional fighter, currently owns the NASCAR Cup Series team The Money Team Racing. Between 1996 and 2017, he competed as a professional boxer, finishing with a perfect record and 15 major world titles ranging from super featherweight to light middleweight.

This includes the lineal titles in four weight classes and the Ring magazine titles in five weight classes (twice at welterweight). As an amateur boxer, he achieved success by winning three U.S. Golden Gloves titles (at light flyweight, flyweight, and featherweight), the featherweight national championship, and a bronze medal in the featherweight event at the 1996 Olympics.

Floyd Mayweather’s Net Worth

Floyd Mayweather is an American boxing promoter and world-renowned champion. Floyd Mayweather’s estimated net worth is $450 million. As a result, he is now the wealthiest boxer in history. At the time of writing, Floyd’s career earnings exceed $1,100,000,000.

Floyd is one of only six athletes whose career earnings have surpassed $1 billion, making him the fifth highest-paid athlete in history. Michael Schumacher ($1 billion), Tiger Woods ($1.65 billion), Michael Jordan ($1.9 billion), Jack Nicklaus ($1.15 billion), and Arnold Palmer ($1.35 billion) round out the top five.

The most impressive aspect of Floyd’s earnings is that he reached the fifth-highest athlete salary ever despite modest endorsement income. In contrast, the vast majority of the historically highest-paid athletes earned the majority of their income from endorsements.

In just two fights, Floyd’s earnings exceeded $500 million. In 2015, he fought Manny Pacquiao and earned $250 million. He received $300 million from Conor McGregor in 2017. In 2013, just prior to his fight with Saul Alvarez, Floyd famously showed an ESPN reporter his checking account balance.

Floyd flaunted the $123 million in his bank account with pride. During his prime as a boxer, Floyd was routinely (and by a wide margin) the highest-paid athlete in the world. Despite having very few sponsorship deals, Floyd can easily earn between $150 and $300 million per year from his fights.

Between June 2014 and June 2015, Floyd earned a staggering $300 million. Between June 2017 and June 2018, Floyd earned $300 million, largely as a result of his August 2017 bout with Conor McGregor. Floyd earns $10 million annually from endorsements outside of the ring.

Beginnings of Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 24, 1977. Floyd Mayweather Sr., his father, was also a professional boxer who was most well-known for his bout against Sugar Ray Leonard. Jeff and Roger, Floyd Jr.’s uncles, are both former professional boxers.

Floyd has been trained by Floyd Jr. and Roger at separate times. As a child, Floyd’s mother used drugs and was largely absent. When Floyd was old enough to go to the boxing gym, his father spent the majority of his time with him.

Floyd moved in with his grandmother following his father’s incarceration. Floyd devoted his time during this period to boxing. He dropped out of high school and entered amateurism. Floyd won the Golden Gloves national championship in 1993, 1994, and 1996. He also brought home a bronze medal from the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. His amateur record stands at 84-4.

Floyd Mayweather’s Profession

Floyd’s first professional bout took place on October 11, 1996. In the second round, he knocked out Roberto Apodaca. Throughout his career, Floyd Mayweather won six boxing championships in six different weight classes, including Super Featherweight, Lightweight, Junior Welterweight, Welterweight twice, and Super Welterweight. As of this writing, he has a remarkable professional boxing record of 50 wins and 0 losses. 27 of the fifty wins were by knockout.
