James Comey Biography: Born on December 14, 1960, James Comey began his career as a lawyer and later led the most prestigious police force in the United States. In between his different jobs with the government, he worked for well-known companies.

Early Life

James Comey was born in Yonkers, New York, on December 14, 1960. He was born to Joan Marie Comey and James Brien Comey. He was born under the sign of Sagittarius and comes from Irish roots. In the 1970s, his family moved from New York to Allendale, New Jersey. He went to Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, New Jersey. He graduated in 1982. After that, he went to the University of Chicago Law School and got his law degree there in 1985. He worked as a law clerk for a US District Judge in Manhattan.

Career

After two years of law school, Comey got a job as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York in 1987. Up until 1993, he worked for Rudolph W. Giuliani. After that, he moved to Virginia and became a partner at the law firm McGuireWoods, LLP. Comey went back to working for the government after three years at a law firm.

In 1996, he was made an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. In 2002, he was made a U.S. attorney and put in charge of the Southern District of New York. He was deputy attorney-general from 2003 to 2004 and even briefly became attorney-general.

In 2005, Comey quit his job at the Department of Justice to become general counsel for Lockheed Martin Corporation, which was the biggest defense contractor. He left again in 2010 to become general counsel at Bridgewater Associates, which was the biggest hedge fund at the time. He did that job until 2013, when he became the seventh director of the FBI and stayed there until 2017.
