They first established themselves in Ontario, Canada, before relocating to Washington. Cobain’s family was musically inclined. Chuck Fradenburg, his uncle, played in a band, and Mari Earle, his aunt, was a guitarist. His great-uncle, the Irish tenor Delbert McClinton, appeared in the 1930 film “King of Jazz.”

In 1972, Cobain enrolled in Robert Gray Elementary School. At age two, he began to develop an interest in music. Before his parents’ divorce in 1975, he led a very normal upbringing. Cobain later acknowledged that this event had a significant impact on his life. According to his mother, he underwent a significant personality shift and became more introverted. After a year of living with his mother after his parents’ divorce, he moved to Montesano, Washington with his father and enrolled in Beacon Elementary School. They lived together through the second year of high school before returning to his mother’s home. Two weeks prior to graduation, he dropped out of school and his mother expelled him. The following years were spent with friends.

Cobain’s interest in music began at a very young age. He would draw his favourite film and comic book characters. While in high school, Cobain attended live performances and rock concerts. On his fourteenth birthday, his uncle presented him with a guitar. Soon he began working on his songs.
