Meghan Trainor Biography:

Early Life

Meghan Trainor was born on December 22, 1993, in Nantucket, Massachusetts, to Kelly Anne and Gary Trainor. Trainor was raised in a musical household; her father was both a musician and a music educator. Since she was six years old, she has gone to the neighborhood church with her father. At the age of eleven, Trainor began penning songs and seeking a career as a recording artist. She decided to experiment with a variety of genres and instruments, including the piano, guitar, and bongo drum, with the encouragement of her father. She joined her father, brother, and aunt in the band Island Fusion when she was twelve years old.

The group performed Trainor’s original songs as well as covers and soca. When she was thirteen years old, she composed her first original song. The family moved to North Eastham, Massachusetts, about the same period. While attending Nauset Regional High School, Trainor took up guitar lessons and filled in as a stand-in cheerleader. She even played trumpet and sang in a jazz band for three years. Until her home studio was ready, she recorded and produced her works using Logic Studio.

Career

The publication of Trainor’s self-titled debut album marked the start of her professional career in 2009. The album received extensive playback on local radio stations. Meghan was offered a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music, but she declined it in order to sign a Big Yellow Dog Music publishing deal. She started off as a hired songwriter before moving into music publishing. She subsequently moved to Nashville because her profession needed her to travel, which is when she met Kevin Kadish. The pair, who were both ardent fans of retro music, wrote the song “All About That Bass” in 2013.

Following a series of rejections, Trainor decided to record the song myself. After being published in June 2014, the song gained immediate popularity, peaked at number one in 58 countries, and became one of the all-time best-selling songs. “All About That Bass” has sold over six million copies globally and has received six platinum certifications. In 2016, Trainor took home the Grammy for Best New Artist.

As Trainor rose to prominence in the music industry, she also experimented with television work. Alongside DJ Khaled, Charlie Walk, and Sean Combs, she judged Fox’s “The Four: Battle for Stardom” in December 2017. In 2020, she was a coach on the British version of “The Voice.” On a January 2018 episode of TBS’s “Drop the Mic,” Trainor faced off against singer Shania Twain. Both women were crowned winners. She also provided the voice of Smurfs: The Lost Village and Playmobil: The Movie, two animated movies. Following her signing an overall agreement with NBCUniversal in March 2021, viewers will soon be able to witness her act in a comedy series.
