Jordan is a former American professional basketball player, Olympic athlete, businessman, and actor. He was widely recognised as one of the greatest basketball players of all time from the mid-1980s through the late 1990s. Five regular-season and three All-Star M.V.P. awards made Jordan the most decorated player in NBA history.

Michael Jordan Birthday

Michael Jordan was one of five children born to James and Deloris Jordan on February 17, 1963. When Jordan was young, his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. His father was a factory manager for General Electric, and his mother was a banker. According to his father, he should work hard and avoid the streets. As a sophomore, Jordan was first cut from his high school basketball team. He made the team the following season. He received a basketball scholarship to play for Dean Smith at UNC after graduating from high school.

When Jordan was selected, the Chicago Bulls were a losing club that drew less than 6,000 fans to home games. Jordan changed that immediately. His playing style and competitive mentality reminded sportswriters and fans of 1970s great Julius Erving. Jordan’s amazing leaps and hang time wowed league-wide fans. He was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Year after being named to the All-Star team his rookie season. Jordan missed 64 games from 1985 to 1986 due to a fractured foot, but returned to score 49 and 63 points in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics, both NBA records. Jordan started the All-Star game in 1986 and 1987 after receiving a record 1.5 million votes. He scored 3,000 points for the first time since Wilt Chamberlain in a single season (1936 to 1999).

The 1993 NBA championship was won by the Chicago Bulls following a difficult playoff series against the New York Knicks. With Jordan as MVP, Chicago had won their third consecutive postseason championship. James, Jordan’s father, was murdered by two guys during a robbery that summer. In October, Jordan’s grief over his father’s death and media reports about his gambling compelled him to abandon basketball. Jordan had won three consecutive NBA championships, three regular season Most Valuable Player awards, three playoff Most Valuable Player awards, seven straight scoring titles, and was a perennial All-Star. In nine seasons, he was the Bulls’ all-time leader in scoring.

Jordan has retired thrice in the 19 years following his debut. He initially retired in 1993, then once more in 1998, and finally in 2003.
