Nicki Minaj: Career

At the age of five, they relocated to the United States with Minaj, settling in South Jamaica, Queens, and New York. Minaj desired a career in acting. To fulfill her ambition, she enrolled in Manhattan’s LaGuardia Performing Arts School.

She tried her hand at acting after high school, but her career never really took off. In order to support herself, she then worked as a waitress, but she was fired too frequently for being impolite to clients.

She gave up acting to concentrate on music. She joined The Hood stars, the Full Force quartet. Along with her group, she wrote a number of songs, which she then shared with everyone she knew in the New York music scene. She was signed to the record label of Dirty Money Entertainment’s C.E.O. in 2007 for a six-month period.

She recorded three mixtapes there. 2009 saw Lil Wayne sign her to his Young Money Entertainment record label after hearing her mixtapes. The following year (2010), she released her debut album, “Pink Friday,” which went on to become the number one album on the Billboard 200 album charts.
