Reeves did not return to the Shadow Cabinet following Jeremy Corbyn’s election as Labour leader in 2015; instead, she presided over the Business, Energy, and Industrial Policy Committee from 2017 to 2020.

Keir Starmer appointed Reeves as the Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office. She then assumed the position of Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer in May 2021.
