Ravi Shastri Biography: Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri (born May 27, 1962) is the former head coach, cricket commentator, and captain of the Indian national cricket team. Between 1981 and 1992, he represented India’s national cricket team in Test and One-Day International matches. Although he began his career as a left-arm spin bowler, he evolved into an all-rounder batsman. Shastri was a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team.
Ravi Shastri was born on 27 May 1962 to a middle-class household in Mangalore, Karnataka, but was raised in Mumbai. M. Jayadratha Shashtri is his father, while Lakshmi Shashtri is her mother.
In 1990, he wed the classical dancer Ritu Singh, and in 2012, they divorced. Their daughter’s name is Aleka Shashtri.
Ravi Shashtri was born on May 27, 1962 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India to M. Jayadratha Shashtri and Lakshmi Shashtri. Don Bosco High School in Matunga, Mumbai, was where he received his education. After that, he graduated from the Ramniranjan Anandilal Poddar College of Commerce and Economics in Matunga, Mumbai, with a degree in Commerce.
Since infancy, he has had a passion for cricket and has competed in the inter-school Giles Shield for his school team. He was also the school team president. During his college years, he participated in multiple tournaments and won the Ranji Trophy.
At age 17, he was one of the youngest cricketers to compete for Bombay at the time. During his college years, he was chosen to play for Bombay and won the Ranji Trophy.
In 1980-81, a 19-and-under team was scheduled to tour Pakistan, and he captained one of the trial squads. Additionally, he was requested to lead the team, but the tour was cancelled.
During the two Ranji seasons, he had bowling figures of 6-61, which was a notable accomplishment.
He lost the final Ranji season he played in 1979-80 against Delhi.
Shastri was summoned to New Zealand to replace the ailing spinner Dilip Doshi during Uttar Pradesh’s match against Uttar Pradesh in Kanpur. His seven wickets in the third test earned him the Man of the Match award, while his 15 wickets in the series were the most.
Ranji’s final match of 1984/85 was one of the greatest matches in India’s domestic cricket annals. He scored 20th while batting at number five, bringing Bombay’s total for the last Ranji trophy to 333.
September 1994 marked his retirement from first-class cricket.
In July 2017, CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) coaches Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman appointed him as the head coach of the national team.
