Robert Blake Biography: An American actor who was born Michael James Vincenzo Gubitosi, is best known for his roles in the television series Baretta and the 1967 film In Cold Blood. He passed away on March 9, 2023. Blake made his acting debut in the final years of Metro-Goldwyn-Our Mayer’s Gang (Little Rascals) short film series, which ran from 1939 to 1944. Additionally, he played a child actor in 22 Red Ryder films.

In the Red Ryder series and many of his adult roles, the Italian-American actor portrayed American Indian and Mexican characters frequently. After serving in the United States Army, Blake returned to acting, appearing in both film and television roles.

Up until 1997’s Lost Highway, Blake continued to act. Author Michael Newton referred to Blake’s career as “one of the longest in Hollywood history” due to the fact that he was one of the first child actors to successfully transition into adult roles.

In 1999, following the birth of his two children from his previous marriage to Sondra Kerr, Robert began dating Bonnie Lee Bakley. Bakley allegedly has a reputation for exploiting older men for financial gain. She dated Christian Brando, the son of Marlon Brando, concurrently with her relationship with Blake. She informed Christian and Robert of their child’s pregnancy and paternity. In 2000, the couple wed after a DNA test revealed that the child was Robert’s.

Robert made his film debut in “Bridal Suite” when he was only six years old. After starring in the MGM short film series “Our Gang,” he achieved fame. Blake was cast as a Native American boy in the western television series “Red Ryder” as a result of his multiple appearances there. Before the age of 17, he began appearing in films such as “The Black Rose” and “Black Hand.”

In 1950, Blake enlisted in the United States Army. He left the military at age 21, but had difficulty finding employment. Subsequently, Robert began dealing drugs and developed cocaine and heroin addictions. After attending acting school, he was able to become one of Hollywood’s most renowned performers.

Blake performed in films such as “The Purple Gang” and “Pork Chop Hill” after appearing in numerous Western television episodes such as “26 Men” and “The Cisco Kid.” In 1967, his career advanced significantly after he was cast as the lead in the film “In Cold Blood.”

The release of “Baretta” in 1975 marked the start of his most recognizable role. As a plainclothes police detective, Robert gained notoriety for sayings such as “don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time” After “Baretta” ended in 1978, Blake appeared in films such as “Money Train” and “Lost Highway” as well as television series such as “Blood Feud” and “Hell Town.”

Robert Blake declared bankruptcy in 2006, shortly after being ordered to pay the estate of Bonnie Lee $30 million. He listed $3 million in obligations. In 2010, the state of California filed a lien against the actor for $1,110,878 in unpaid back taxes.

According to reports, Robert also has substantial legal fees to pay. In light of these financial difficulties, Blake considered reentering the entertainment industry. However, he stated that he felt “half-dead” and that he would not return to Hollywood at the age of 85.

Real Estate

Blake has owned a Studio City home since 1983, but it has since been sold to a number of other individuals. In 2001, he placed the home on the market for $1,000,000 USD. The house has seven bedrooms and approximately 5,000 square feet of living space.

In 2003, shortly after Blake was released on bail of $1.5 million, an actress named Alexandra Kingston listed the residence for $1.6 million. Kingston eventually sold the home for $1.5 million. The property changed hands again in 2018, this time for $3.35 million, $400,000 more than the asking price.
