Aligarh: Seminar on foreign education, scholarships to mark Sir Syed Day

On the occasion, the Chief Guest, well known pediatrician, Dr Hameeda Tariq encouraged students to obtain scholarships.

In the continued Sir Syed Day celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Sir Syed Ahmad Khan; ‘Badar Jehan’ scholarships were distributed to meritorious female students and a seminar on ‘Foreign Education’ was organised by the General Training and Placement Office of the university in collaboration with the Sir Syed Higher Education Society, USA.

Over 400 students from various faculties attended the programme.

On the occasion, the Chief Guest, well known pediatrician, Dr Hameeda Tariq encouraged students to obtain scholarships.

Congratulating the scholarship recipients, she said, “Talent needs appreciation and grooming every now and then—scholarships and awards boost the confidence of students”.

Dr Hameeda extended gratitude to Dr Syed Masarrat Ali (Moderator, Sir Syed Higher Education Society, Boston, USA) for providing students with the scholarships for the fifth consecutive year.

Speaking in the seminar on ‘Foreign Education’, Dr Syed Masarrat Ali explained how higher education abroad can take the career of students to the next level.

Later, Dr Syed Masarrat coordinated a panel discussion and spoke on the evolving education landscape and the growing number of higher studies options in the US, Canada, UK and European countries.

The panel discussion also comprised Hira Usman Khan (Netherlands), Huma Khan (Australia), Ayesha Khan (Germany) and Sana Athar (Germany) as speakers.

Saad Hameed, the General Training and Placement Officer delivered the welcome address and Dr Mansoor Alam Siddiqui (Training and Placement Officer, Women’s College) extended the vote of thanks.

Dr Jahangir Alam, Dr Sayyeda and Dr Saima apprised the students about requisites for studying abroad.

Aafia Rizvi conducted the programme.

Meanwhile, the Sir Syed Day was celebrated at the AMU Murshidabad Centre with Khalilur Rahman (Member of Parliament, Jangipur) as the Chief Guest and Md Sohrab (Ex-MLA), Sajahan Biswas (Chairman, Voice Public School) and H M Raijul Hoque (BDO, Suti-I) as Guests of Honour.

AMU Faculty Member Selected for Professional Development Award

The Chief Guest, Khalilur Rahaman spoke on different aspects of the life and works of Sir Syed.

On the occasion, he also released a souvenir on ‘Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’, edited volume, ‘Race, Ethnicity and Migration in Post-Colonial Literature’ and the Law Society volume, ‘Contemporary Socio Legal Issues: A Multidisciplinary Approach’.

The Guests of Honour talked about Sir Syed’s struggles for education reforms and shared ideas for the development of the Murshidabad Centre.

Dr Nigamananda Biswas (Director-in-Charge, Murshidabad Centre) delivered the welcome address; Dr Rasheed Ahmad (Department of Education) gave a brief introduction of the Murshidabad Centre and Shaila Mehmood (Department of Law) announced the results of Sir Syed Week competitions.

Dr Syed Atif Jilani (Department of Business Administration) and Aliya Tazeen (Department of Education) conducted the programme.

Dr Rashid Usman Ansari (Department of Business Administration) extended the vote of thanks.

At the AMU Girls’ School, students participated in various events to celebrate Sir Syed Day.

Aryan Pratap Singh (Class XII, RMPS AMU City School) won the inter-school portrait competition with Sarah Waqar (Class IX, AMU Girls’ School) and Mayank Kumar (Class IX, RMPS AMU City School) finishing second. Simran (Class X, AMU City Girls High School) stood third, while Aliza Mairaj (Class IX, AMU ABK High School-Girls), Laveneesh Anand (Class X, RMPS AMU City School) and Mehdi Fazal (Class X, AMU STS School) shared the consolation prize.

In the inter-school essay-writing contest; Sarah Tarab Khan (Class XI, AMU Girls School), Rahimullah (Class X, RMPS AMU City School) and Tarun Kumar Sharma (Class IX, AMU STS School) received the first, second and third prizes respectively. Manya Gupta (Class IX, AMU STS School) and Hadi Ahmad (Class IX, RMPS AMU City School) shared the consolation prize.

AMU remembers Rahi Masoom Raza, releases Hindi translation of his thesis

Team comprising Samreen (Class X), Khadija Fatima (Class X), Maria (Class IX), Maryam Khan (Class IX) and Zunaira (Class IX) won the ‘Bait-Baazi’ competition. A total of 40 students out of 90 participants of the ‘Mehndi’ contest were given certificates of appreciation.

In the Sir Syed Day celebrations at the AMU City Girls’ High School; the Chief Guest, Prof Hammad Usmani (Director, MAS) and the Special Guest, Prof Abid Ali Khan (Deputy Director, Directorate of School Education) encouraged students to follow teachings of Sir Syed and excel in their studies.

They were also felicitated with mementoes and bouquets.

Dr MD Alamgir (School Principal) delivered the welcome address.

Teachers, Ziaul Haque and students, Mahvish and Kausar Noor spoke on the life and works of Sir Syed. Nazish Siddiqui and Fatima Iqra Poems recited poems.
