NEET JEE CUET Merger: Medical entrance exam NEET, engineering entrance exam JEE Main will not be merged into CUET. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said this while interacting with the students of a coaching institute in Kota.
There is no proposal to merge NEET and JEE with CUET, he said. It is worth noting that last month, UGC chief M. Jagadesh Kumar had said that there are plans to merge the national level engineering and medical admissions with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) from the next academic year. The UGC has constituted a committee of experts in this regard. He had said that by merging JEE Main and NEET in CUET, the burden on the students will be reduced. This is being done because of the new education policy. However, we will not do all these things in a hurry. It needs to be well planned.
Students preparing for medical, engineering entrance examinations were very upset and confused by the news of the merger of NEET, JEE Main and CUET. He was worried that on the basis of which exam pattern he should prepare. But with this statement of the Education Minister, the tension of lakhs of students has been removed.
Many experts had also expressed concern about the merger. This year 14.9 lakh students had registered for the CUET exam for admission in central universities. Many times there were technical difficulties in the conduct of CUET. The exam had to be postponed several times. Around 18 lakh students apply for NEET and 12 lakh in JEE Main. If all the three examinations are merged, then a common examination will not be conducted properly. Students will face many problems.
