Education Ministry invites applications for NMMS scheme for Classes 9 to 12

The goal of this scholarship is to keep students in Class 8 from dropping out and to encourage them to stay in school through the secondary level.

The Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy has started taking applications for the National Merit and Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for 2023–2024. The scholarship will be given to students in grades 9–12 from poorer families who have done well in school. Students can apply at scholarships.gov.in, which is the official website of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

The scholarship application deadline is November 30. The goal of this scholarship is to keep students in Class 8 from dropping out and to encourage them to stay in school through the secondary level.

Each year, one million new scholarships are given to students in state government, government-aided, and local body schools who have been chosen. This starts in Class 9 and continues through Class 12. The scholarship is worth Rs 12,000 every year.

The scholarship money is put directly into the bank accounts of the chosen students by electronic transfer through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) following DBT mode.

Students can get this scholarship if their parents’ annual income is less than Rs 3.50 lakh. For the selection test, students who want the scholarship must have gotten at least 55% on their Class 7 exam or a grade that is the same as that. SC and ST students have their eligibility requirements loosened by 5%.

There are two levels of checking for NSP applications: the first is at the institution/school level by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) on December 15, and the second is at the district level by the District Nodal Officer (DNO) on December 30.
