Engineers Day 2022: Every year 15 September is celebrated as Engineer’s Day in the country. This day is dedicated to the country’s great engineer and Bharat Ratna awardee Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. M Visvesvaraya had made a huge contribution in nation building, in such a situation, Engineers Day is celebrated across the country on 15 September, his birthday. Civil engineer Visvesvaraya played an important role in the construction of dams, reservoirs and hydroelectric projects of modern India. The government honored him with the Bharat Ratna in the year 1955.

This day is a day to salute the hard work and dedication of all the engineers of the country who are contributing in the development of the country. Due to the tireless efforts of these engineers, there has been a big change in the lives of the people. Engineers of the country have made common life easier with their discoveries.

Who was M Visvesvaraya

Visvesvaraya was also known as Sir MV in the country. Bharat Ratna awardee M Visvesvaraya was born on 15 September 1861 in a Telugu family in Kakaballapur taluk in Kolar district of Mysore. Visvesvaraya’s father’s name was Srinivasa Sastri, a Sanskrit scholar and doctor of Ayurveda.

Visvesvaraya immediately got a government job in the post of assistant engineer after obtaining a degree in civil engineering from the Science College of Poona in 1883. He was the 19th Diwan of Mysore and served from 1912 to 1918. He is called the father of Modern Mysore because of his works done in Mysore. He had established many factories and educational institutions in collaboration with the Government of Mysore. He made a major contribution to the construction of the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam in Mandya district. Dr. Mokshagundam is also known as Bhagirath of Karnataka. Dr. Mokshagundam died in 1962 at the age of 102.
