IMD issues warnings: Maharashtra schools are closed; Telangana is anticipated to close schools on July 20 & 21

Due to heavy rainfall, schools and colleges in Raigad, Maharashtra, remained closed on July 20 and 21, while a heavy rainfall warning was issued for several districts in Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the districts of Palghar and Raigad and an orange alert for the districts of Thane, Mumbai, and Ratnagiri.

The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated locations until July 19, prompting an orange alert in Mumbai and a red alert in Palghar and Raigad.

Over the next five days in Maharashtra and the next three days in Gujarat, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. On July 19, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra ghat regions, and Gujarat were likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall.

In addition, the IMD forecast precipitation for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan during the specified dates.

On July 18, Mumbai recorded an average of 88.24 millimeters of heavy to very heavy precipitation. The districts of Palghar and Thane were on alert until July 20, while Raigad was on orange alert until July 21. Authorities advised residents to remain indoors and refrain from venturing outdoors.

On the basis of forecasts of excessive rainfall in Telangana, it was anticipated that the government would close schools. Schools in Delhi remained suspended until July 18 due to rising Yamuna River water levels. Officials will provide additional updates regarding school closures and other pertinent details.
