MBBS: NMC introduces amendments in Establishment of new Medical Colleges

Amrita Deemed University will be the first to benefit from the final approval of the draft of the new rules and will clear the way for the opening of a medical college in Faridabad.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given relief to universities and deemed universities in the rules for opening medical colleges. Under this, the institutions which are already running 1000-bed hospital and medical college anywhere in the country, they will be given permission to open new medical colleges immediately. The NMC has sought views of various stakeholders on the revised draft rules for setting up medical colleges. Under the existing rules, to open a medical college, there should be a two-year-old hospital of three hundred beds.

Clear way for opening of medical college in Faridabad

According to the new rules, if a university or a deemed university wants to open another medical college and already has a new multi specialty hospital and medical college with a capacity of 1000 beds, then it is exempted from the need of two years old hospital. will be provided. Amrita Deemed University will be the first to benefit from the final approval of the draft of the new rules and will clear the way for the opening of a medical college in Faridabad.

Amrita University already has a medical college in Kochi. Recently it has started a 2400 bed hospital in Faridabad. Under the current rules, he may have to wait for two more years to open a medical college. But with the change in the rules, he will be entitled to open a medical college.

A provision has been made in the draft that this rule will be valid only if the already running medical college and the newly being formed medical college belong to the same institution.
