National webinar organized to observe Wildlife Week

Mr. Arun Chaudhary emphasised the significance of Wildlife Week and clarified India's place among the mega-biodiversity nations.

National webinar organized: In conjunction with a plantation push at the department’s Biodiversity and Environmental Studies section, the Department of Wildlife Sciences at Aligarh Muslim University organised a one-day webinar to commemorate “National Wildlife Week-2023.”

A lecture on “Biodiversity / Wildlife Conservation in Northeast”, an area of India with a high biodiversity, was given by eminent scientist Prof. Gopi G.V., Head, Department of Endangered Species Management, Wildlife Institute of India (WII). He spoke about the usefulness of cutting-edge methods for wildlife conservation, such as radio-telemetry and camera trapping.

We are fortunate to have a visionary Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, under whose leadership India successfully reintroduced Cheetah conservation in Kuno National Park, said Dr. Nazneen Zehra, the organising secretary, in her opening remarks to the speaker.

AMU faculty delivers talk in International Conference at Bengaluru

Mr. Arun Chaudhary emphasised the significance of Wildlife Week and clarified India’s place among the mega-biodiversity nations. In light of the current concerns, such as habitat degradation, climate change, invasive species, pollution, and illnesses, to more than 42000 species at risk of extinction, he urged for wildlife awareness.

The Cheetah Reintroduction Program’s Prof. P.K. Malik, the keynote speaker, discussed “Human-Wildlife Interface, Biodiversity Loss, and Climate Change: Relationship with Disease Emergence” in his speech.

The webinar was introduced by Sana Zameer, and a vote of gratitude was put forth by Mr. Intakhab. Successful management of the webinar’s telecast was provided by Devanshu and Aliyan.

The webinar attracted about 600 participants from all over the nation and beyond.

Dry deciduous seedlings were planted as part of the arboretum’s plantation campaign, which was spearheaded by Prof. Jamal A. Khan.
