RMLIMS Gets NABH Accreditation In Recognition Of High-Quality Standard

National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH), and the first in Uttar Pradesh. Currently

RMLIMS Gets NABH Accreditation: Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) Lucknow is the second government hospital in North India to obtain full accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH), and the first in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, only ILBS is fully accredited by the NABH.

NABH is a board of the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the apex authority for healthcare organisation accreditation in India. The accreditation will assist RMLIMS in attracting more patients and in enhancing the calibre of care it provides.

Prof. Soniya Nityanand, director of RMLIMS, stated at a press conference, “We are proud to be the second government hospital in North India to receive NABH accreditation. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, who have laboured tirelessly to ensure that our patient care meets the highest standards.”

She added that the institute will continue to relentlessly pursue higher quality standards in patient safety and care delivery. Prof. Nityanand explained that the institute was granted accreditation after passing a rigorous evaluation procedure that evaluated its performance in areas such as patient safety, quality, and infrastructure.

In 2019, RMLIMS submitted an application for NABH accreditation, but the process was delayed due to Covid-19. In 2022, the institute received over 400 recommendations for development. Two more inspections were conducted in 2023, with the second inspection in April yielding 88 recommendations. In June, the institution was ultimately accredited.

Prof. Smita Chauhan of the Department of General Surgery noted that the institute established a quality cell to conduct audits and quality improvement programmes, as well as a patient safety programme that includes initiatives such as the introduction of patient identification bands, safety measures in patient transport, and the establishment of emergency codes and protocols.

She also mentioned that the institute provided ongoing training and education programmes for paramedical staff and residents, as well as a robust grievance resolution and patient feedback mechanism.

Prof. Vikram Singh, the Institute’s Medical Superintendent, stated that the institute met all NABH infrastructure-related, legal, material management, and hospital procurement requirements.
