Studies will start from new session 2023-24 in Atal residential schools built on the lines of Navodaya Vidyalaya

Similar to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, admission to schools will be determined by an entrance exam administered by the CBSE.

In order to provide a quality education to the children of labourers, the new academic year (2023-2024) will see the opening of 18 Atal residential schools modelled after Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in each division. The Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board will administer these programmes. Various committees have been formed for the operation of the schools. The recruitment process for principal, administrative officer, academic, and non-academic positions for the session 2023-24 has begun. Similar to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, admission to schools will be determined by an entrance exam administered by the CBSE.

The entrance examination will be held in April.

For the first academic year of the Atal residential schools, study-teaching will begin in sixth grade (with 80 students per school) in class six. Children of construction workers and orphans will be admitted to Atal residential schools through the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on the basis of an entrance examination similar to that of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The tentative date of the entrance examination is April 22, 2023.

Committees will make crucial choices

The state’s chief secretary will preside over the state-level monitoring committee, while the principal secretary (labour) will serve as a member secretary. Members will also include the Secretary and Principal Secretary (Secondary Education) of North Building and other construction workers’ welfare. The Divisional Commissioner will preside over the Divisional Level Monitoring Committee, while the respective school principals will serve as committee members. Other members include the DM, BSA, Deputy Labor Commissioner, DIOS, JD, DD, and the Pracharya of Navodaya Vidyalaya nominated by Navodaya Vidyalaya. As nominated members, the committee will include retired principals of Navodaya Vidyalaya, Government Inter College, and Government Girls Inter College, as well as educationists with 10 years of distinguished experience and retired principals of Government Inter College and Government Girls Inter College. Under DM’s leadership, the financial monitoring committee of each school will be authorised to make financial decisions. Principal of the affected school will serve as the committee’s secretary, along with the Deputy Labor Commissioner, ACF, Senior Treasury Officer, and DIOS.
