UGC HRDC Hosts Two-Day Workshop On Eco-Friendly Gardening Practices

The workshop fostered a commitment to sustainable practises among AMU's horticulture community, in addition to imparting practical skills.

UGC HRDC Hosts Two-Day Workshop: The University Grants Commission Human Resource Development Centre at Aligarh Muslim University organised a two-day workshop on eco-friendly horticulture practises in accordance with India’s G20 Presidency commitment to promote sustainability and environmental awareness. As part of the G20 University Connect Events under the Mission LiFE banner, the workshop tailored to AMU gardeners from the Department of Lands and Gardens. The purpose of the workshop was to equip AMU’s gardeners with the knowledge and skills necessary to practise ecologically responsible horticulture.

The Valedictory Ceremony’s Chief Guest and Dean of Students’ Welfare, Professor Abdul Alim, praised the initiative and emphasised the significance of training support staff. He praised the incorporation of course materials in the native languages of participants, Hindi and Urdu, in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Director of UGC HRDC AMU, underlined the importance of continuous professional development in enhancing institutional performance and the workshop’s alignment with India’s G20 Presidency theme, which emphasises environmental preservation and biodiversity.

Professor Zaki Anwar Siddiqui, MIC Lands and Gardens, appreciated the participation of 61 cultivators from the Department of Lands and Gardens’ Plantation Services. He acknowledged the contribution of the workshop to the gardeners’ knowledge and abilities in sustainable practises.

Professor Wazahat Husain, course coordinator, designed the curriculum for the workshop. Professor Masroor A. Khan, Professor Anwar Shehzad of the Department of Botany, and Professor Masroor Alam of the Department of Civil Engineering facilitated interactive sessions as resource personnel. These sessions covered a variety of subjects, such as sustainable horticulture, biodiversity, native plant species, wildlife-friendly habitats, water conservation, and organic pest management.

The workshop fostered a commitment to sustainable practises among AMU’s horticulture community, in addition to imparting practical skills. Notable faculty members from various departments attended the event, demonstrating the interdepartmental collaboration that propels such initiatives.
