Jamia Millia Islamia to conduct own entrance exam for some UG courses

The University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced CUET last year for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) has no plans to implement a Common University Entrance Test (CUET) to ensure timely admission to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the upcoming academic session. The entrance exam will be held. This information was provided by an officer. The University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced CUET last year for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. JMI, on the other hand, did not use CUET for its undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

While the university (JMI) chose CUET to admit students to 10 undergraduate courses last year, the number is likely to increase this year. “Like last year, we will conduct admission through CUET in many courses,” JMI Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar said. There were ten courses last year, but that number will now increase.

Jamia Millia Islamia to remain closed on December 4, due to 2022 MCD elections

Jamia offers admission to 62 undergraduate courses and 72 postgraduate courses, according to the university’s website. According to a senior official, the Academic Council recently decided that the university should use CUET for admission to some undergraduate courses, as it did last year.

The official stated that the matter will be brought before the university’s Executive Council, which is the highest decision-making body.

The UGC announced in March of last year that admission to undergraduate courses in all central universities would be via a common entrance test rather than class 12 results.

In response to the UGC’s directive to make CUET admission mandatory for central universities, Akhtar stated that the university will look into it.
