AMU research scholar attends G20 Women Empowerment Summit

The summit featured the participation of Women and Gender Equality Ministers from across the G20 and guest countries.

Rounak Shahi, a research scholar in the Department of West Asian and North African Studies, Aligarh Muslim University participated as a student representative in the G20 Women Empowerment Summit held by the Ministry of Women and Child Development at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The summit featured the participation of Women and Gender Equality Ministers from across the G20 and guest countries.

Elaborated on the Aligarh Muslim University’s role in upholding and promoting the theme of the G20 Summit, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, Shahi said that it has been working in tandem with the Government of India in deducing the best out of India’s G20 Presidency.

She said that India has set the agenda of ‘collaboration and inclusivity’ in global discourse from the G20 forum, as highlighted by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, in his Independence Day speech. AMU, as a university, is making conscious efforts to impart to its students knowledge and understanding about G20 and India’s role in spreading the message of the summit — “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.

Shahi held that as the Chair of the summit, India gave new impetus to Women’s Leadership by moving forward from an approach of “Women Development” to “Women Led Development”.

Shahi is pursuing research on the topic, “Deconstructing American Foreign Policy: Shifting World Order and Competing Interests in West Asia”.
