Kerala government orders University exams from May 11

The examinations and teaching processes in the state and also in the country have been postponed for an indefinite time due to countrywide lockdown to take precautions and fight the coronavirus outbreak.

The Kerala State Higher Education Department has asked the universities in the state to take necessary precautions and arrangements to conduct the postponed exams from May 11, 2020. The department has also asked to take due notice of the present situations and make viable arrangements for the evaluation process of papers.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus disrupted the education system

The examinations and teaching processes in the state and also in the country have been postponed for an indefinite time due to countrywide lockdown to take precautions and fight the coronavirus outbreak. Coronavirus has infected millions of people all around the world since its outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Coronavirus outbreak was reported from Wuhan in early December 2019. The disease caused by coronavirus has been named as Covid-19.

The first Covid-19 patient in India was detected from Kerala in Thrissur district. The patient was studying in Wuhan, China and had returned to India after the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.

Video-Conferencing with VCs

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, minister of Kerala’s Higher Education KT Jaleel did video conferencing with Vice-Chancellors of universities in the state and discussed future roadmap of education in the state. The important decision which came out of the meeting is starting examinations for remaining subjects and evaluation of papers to release the result on time.

Order to start the evaluation of papers

It has been reported that the minister asked the universities to resume the evaluation of papers from April 20, 2020. A committee headed by Dr. B Iqbal was constituted to take decisions related to matters concerning exams and paper evaluation. The government has issued the order as recommended by the committee.

Start Online Classes

The government has asked to conduct without any breaks in between subsequent papers to complete the exam within a week. They are directed to start online classes for students to resume the teaching activity in the state universities. Also, all libraries should be opened for the students.
