In addition, businesses are encouraged to incorporate the 10 Characteristics of Socially Responsible Employers into their daily operations. This includes valuing and respecting employees and fostering an environment that encourages their success and development.

The essence of the day and the objective it seeks to accomplish are labor laws designed to secure all employees. In reality, labor laws have existed in various forms for centuries. Asian scholars assert that labor laws existed in the Babylonian Code of Hammurabi as early as the 18th century B.C. However, modern labor laws did not emerge until the industrial revolution. This is due to the fact that during this period, laborers were overburdened, underpaid, exploited, and their lives were frequently endangered on the job. Mining was among the most hazardous of these occupations.

Today, workers’ rights encompass fundamental human rights, wherein all categories of laborers — literate or illiterate — are protected from discrimination. Currently, workplace rights encompass the provision of health and safety, the right to privacy at work, and the improvement of relations with employers.
