I Forgot Day in U.S. 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

Gaye Anderson from DeMotte, Indiana, devised this unusual holiday. She began this tradition because there was a time in her life when she had difficulty remembering simple tasks.

I Forgot Day is annually observed on July 2 and is devoted to negligence. Even though we may be surrounded by physical and digital calendars, we still neglect. Are you prone to forgetting significant dates, events, and tasks? Not to worry, there’s a holiday for that — write it down so you don’t forget it next year!

The background of I Forgot Day

Gaye Anderson from DeMotte, Indiana, devised this unusual holiday. She began this tradition because there was a time in her life when she had difficulty remembering simple tasks. She was notorious among her inner circle and extended family for forgetting her daughter’s birthday each year. In addition, she frequently neglected her wedding anniversary. Instead of being troubled by her forgetfulness, she planned this day to simply unwind and forget. In addition, she began commemorating her daughter’s birthday and wedding anniversary annually on July 2. Ironically, she cannot recall when she began celebrating this holiday.

Several individuals cannot recall the birthdays or special events of others, and others have a list of tasks they have been meaning to do for years but keep forgetting! Several factors, including tension, a sedentary lifestyle, an unhealthy diet, illness, anxiety, etc., contribute to this. In fact, entering a door is one of the most unusual causes of forgetfulness. Some scientists believe that the brain perceives the world as a series of scenes or frames, and that passing through a door can cause the brain to deem the preceding room’s information as largely irrelevant.

I Forgot Day encourages individuals to apologise and make amends for any events or occasions they may have overlooked. Today is the day to put an end to negligence and develop a plan to prevent future lapses.
