National Arizona Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

Arizona, formerly a part of the Territory of New Mexico, was divided from Spanish and Mexican territories. It was later ceded to the United States during the Mexican-American War.

National Arizona Day is recognised annually on June 21. Locals claim the weather is bearable and the abundance of sunny days brighten their lives. This southern state, located east of California and south of Utah, is extremely arid and scorching. There are four distinct deserts, each with a distinct climate. There were gold, silver, and copper surges in Arizona. This unique state has played a significant role in the history of Mexico and the United States due to its diverse peoples, lengthy history, and dry climate.

The background of National Arizona Day

Arizona, formerly a part of the Territory of New Mexico, was divided from Spanish and Mexican territories. It was later ceded to the United States during the Mexican-American War. Consequently, a portion of the territory separated and became the Confederate States of America’s Arizona Territory, as established and named. Due to the numerous secessions that occurred, an act was ratified to organise the territory of Arizona. This new territory was merged with portions of the earlier New Mexico Territory to form the Arizona Territory of the United States. Arizona became the 48th state admitted by the United States on February 14, 1912, making it the sixth-largest state in the country.

Due to the state’s central location and abundant resources, Arizona’s economy grew rapidly, and the 17th-century mining surge was its most significant. This changed dramatically during the Great Depression. Famous for The Grand Canyon and a lengthy list of parks and monuments, the state’s economy was boosted by the opening of major road networks to tourists and explorers. Tourism became the driving force behind Arizona’s rapidly expanding economy.

Even though its most popular tourist attraction is a natural landmark, the country’s history and culture are a fascinating combination of Mexican and Native American influences. The purpose of National Arizona Day is to honour and preserve the state’s natural, cultural, and historical resources.
