When you think of drive-thru, you may immediately think of McDonald’s. Well, you may be astonished to learn that they opened their first drive-through in 1975. At the time, McDonald’s had over 3,000 locations worldwide and was well on its way to becoming the global leader in fast cuisine.

The popularity of the drive-through began to influence car design. In 1983, the cupholder as we know it first appeared in automobiles. National Drive-Thru Day was established in 2002 by the original drive-thru restaurant chain, Jack in the Box.
