National Kids Fitness Day is observed annually on May 4 in the United States. Not only is it a day for children to concentrate on physical activity, but it is also a day for them to feel empowered to make lifestyle changes in order to become healthy adults. It is also a time to share fitness journeys with the world and, hopefully, inspire others. National Kids Fitness Day can demonstrate to children, with the aid of family and friends, that physical fitness has the power to transform lives.

The background of National Kids Fitness Day

In 386 B.C., the Greek philosopher Plato was the first physical education (PE) instructor. Physical education was taught at his school, Akademia or The Academy, because he recognised the importance of teaching children as young as seven years old about physical fitness. He believed that perfection could be attained through a combination of education and physical activity. It also assisted pupils in becoming athletes or warriors. Boxing, chariot racing, and wrestling were among the most popular activities. These classes contributed to the advancement of Greek culture, which eventually spread to the rest of the globe.

Physical Education was used to prepare soldiers for battle when it arrived in the United States in the mid-19th century. During World War I, the preponderance of military recruits were unfit for combat. To prepare future generations for conflict and athletic competitions, laws were enacted to include and enhance physical education programmes in public schools. The emphasis shifted from diversions and sports to physical conditioning during World War II. Men and women utilised physical education to maintain their fitness not only for war, but also for manual labour. In 1953, the Kraus-Weber study found that American children were less active than their European counterparts. As a result, elementary P.E. has encountered tremendous growth.

Today, many physical education programmes emphasise overall fitness or wellness in addition to talent development. A sedentary lifestyle is associated with numerous health hazards. Physical education plays a crucial role in the physical, psychological, and cognitive development of children.

NATIONAL KIDS FITNESS DAY ACTIVITIES

Create a motion playlist

Create a workout playlist to motivate you. Have you already obtained one? Refresh it with new music in order to achieve your fitness objectives.

Invite individuals to exercise

Having others participate in your physical activity can enhance its enjoyment. There is also a small amount of friendly competition that can increase everyone’s motivation.

Try a different exercise.

Introduce a new exercise into your regimen. It prevents monotony and can complement your current workout. Runners, for instance, can benefit from practising yoga to reduce injuries and increase flexibility.

5 Methods to Motivate Children to Exercise

Gifts that encourage movement include bicycles, basketballs, rollerblades, skateboards, and even active-play video games.

Kids can get moving by walking to school, skating to a friend’s home or taking the stairs instead of the lift.

Set up a competition with your child to see who can run quicker or perform more jumping jacks, for instance.

Including your children’s peers in physical activities enhances their enjoyment for everyone.

Children and adults are more likely to persist with an exercise or activity if it is enjoyable, so encourage this by playing their favourite music during the workout.
