National Pet Choking Prevention Day, observed on June 22, is a mission-driven campaign to spread education to pet-parents around the world about the everyday pet choking hazards in your home, the shocking statistics of how common (and preventable) pet choking is, and the simple yet crucial ways we can work together to eliminate these risks for our beloved pets.
National Pet Choking Prevention Day was established with the simple mission of “Target: Zero” in an effort to completely eliminate tragic pet choking deaths and pet choking incidents. It was inspired by an unwavering commitment to pet safety.
Tragically, over two hundred thousand pet choking incidents occur annually in the United States, costing pet owners millions of dollars in veterinary expenses and, more importantly, an incalculable and irreversible physical and emotional cost. These pet choking disasters cause panic, fear, and anxiety among pet owners and veterinarians attempting to save the animals’ lives.
National Pet Choking Prevention Day was created by Bow Wow Labs, a national pet wellness product company, to build a global community of people who share their commitment to keeping pets safe, healthy, and happy. National Pet Choking Prevention Day was inspired by the simple objective of increasing pet-parent awareness and education with the aim of eliminating all pet choking incidents in the United States and around the world.
National Pet Choking Prevention Day will be celebrated for the first time on June 22, 2023, in collaboration with veterinary professionals, such as Dr. Judy Morgan, who see and must treat preventable pet choking incidents daily.
