The background of National Ralph Day

Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, philosopher, and leader of the American transcendentalist movement. Emerson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 25, 1803. After the death of his father and the majority of his male siblings, he spent his infancy surrounded by women. This experience transformed him into an ardent supporter of women’s rights. As an intellectual with relatively liberal beliefs, he devoted his life to noble causes, such as the abolition of slavery, and was one of the movement’s earliest leaders. His belief in the inherent goodness of man inspired countless individuals, and his writings had a profound impact on Walt Whitman, William James, and Henry David Thoreau. In 1882, Emerson died of pneumonia

Ralph Fiennes, an English actor, producer, and stage actor, is renowned for his chillingly accurate portrayal of the Nazi S.S. officer Amon Goeth in the 1993 Oscar-winning film “Schindler’s List.” Before entering the film industry, Fiennes was an accomplished actor, having performed at the esteemed Royal National Theatre. In his first film, “Wuthering Heights” (1992), he portrayed the evil Heathcliff. Fiennes is outspoken on political matters and in 2016 strongly opposed the Brexit movement in the United Kingdom. He is the recipient of a Primetime Emmy and a Tony Award.

Ralph Lauren, a fashion designer, founded the multibillion-dollar global enterprise Ralph Lauren Corporation. The billionaire industrialist is an avid collector of automobiles. Born and nurtured in The Bronx, New York, U.S., he is the son of Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants. The 82-year-old fashion magnate grew up in the same neighbourhood as Robert Denning and Calvin Klein. His clothing line consists of men’s athletic wear, fragrances, luxury timepieces and exquisite jewellery. Lauren stood down as CEO of Ralph Lauren Corporation in 2015, but he still serves as executive chair and chief creative officer of the company.
