National Report Military Fraud Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about Military Scams

Fraud Day was first observed in 2018 after its establishment. It was founded by Joel Hesch, an attorney who worked for the Department of Justice's whistleblower award division for more than 15 years.

National Report Military Fraud Day, which takes place on July 2, raises awareness about the scope and repercussions of military fraud and educates the public about monetary incentives for reporting it to the appropriate authorities.

10% of total military expenditures are lost to fraud. Out of the $500 billion that the Department of Defence or D.O.D. spends annually, military malfeasance costs the government roughly $50 billion. It comes as no surprise that, from a fiscal standpoint, it poses a serious national problem. Congress has therefore authorised the Department of Justice or D.O.J. to offer rewards of up to 30 percent of the total amount recovered from forgeries disclosed by whistleblowers. These can be filed against any government contractor or programme, including the military, the Department of Defence, the Department of Homeland Security, and Medicare.

The background of National Report Military Fraud Day

Fraud Day was first observed in 2018 after its establishment. It was founded by Joel Hesch, an attorney who worked for the Department of Justice’s whistleblower award division for more than 15 years. Hesch recovered more than $1.2 billion from fraudsters and con artists during his tenure at the Department of Justice. He also assisted in the payment of enormous quantities as rewards to whistleblowers. Hesch then established his own law firm, which now exclusively represents whistleblowers seeking financial incentives for revealing instances of government fraud and military misconduct.

Mr. Hesch is also the author of an e-book that explains the pertinent information about military fraud and homeland security. This e-book is freely accessible on the national holiday’s official website. The e-book also contains his personal contact information in the event that any information regarding the whistleblower reward system is required. Hesch also maintains a personal website outlining the criteria for whistleblower awards and incentives.

There are two reporting alternatives for military fraud. The first is to disclose a crime under the DOJ reward programme, which pays whistleblowers 15% to 25% of the money recovered.
In addition, under this programme, the government will conduct an investigation and inform the whistleblower of the results. The second option is to file a complaint on the Department of Defense’s website. This also permits for the anonymous reporting of fraud. However, this option does not include any investigation, reward, or notification of findings.

5 FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT MILITARY SCAMS

Fraudsters construct convincing identities on dating apps, websites, and social media by using actual images and impersonating real service members.

As a consequence of overseas deployment, fraudsters frequently pose as military personnel afflicted by financial difficulties or isolation.

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a superior officer, hang up immediately, as commanding officers never contact civilians for any reason, especially to solicit money or gift cards.

This is a common excuse used by con artists to get you to pay for their return, but the military always pays for the full expense of every soldier’s return home from anywhere in the world.

Some swindle artists pose as military personnel wishing to retire early in order to be with you, claiming that they must pay to be released from their service obligation.
