Random Acts of Light Day is observed annually on June 13 as a fundraiser for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society’s ‘Light The Night Walks’ initiative. This day encourages us to perform a random act of compassion to brighten the life of a cancer patient. Volunteering at hospitals, researching treatments and cures for blood cancer patients, or participating in the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walks to raise funds and raise awareness about leukaemia and lymphoma are ways that people observe this day. Random Acts of Light Day seeks to create a compassionate world for cancer patients and their families.

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness and educate the public about blood cancer and its treatment options. It is also a day to advocate for funding blood cancer research so that patients have access to treatments and can live more comfortably. In the United States, blood cancer is the third most prevalent form of cancer that causes death. Every nine minutes, a life is lost to blood cancer, which amounts to nearly 160 fatalities per day. Blood cancer affects approximately 1.3 million individuals in the United States. Leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma are the three major forms of blood cancer. Leukaemia is a blood and bone marrow malignancy that may be either acute or chronic. Acute leukaemia spreads rapidly, whereas chronic leukaemia advances more slowly. In fact, it is the most prevalent malignancy among those younger than 20 and older than 60.
