To standardise aspects of education, administrators transformed science into a collection of facts to be memorised rather than experienced and comprehended. During the Cold War, when the United States became obsessed with maintaining its military superiority over the Soviet Union, this began to alter. In 1950, the government established the National Science Foundation to initiate, fund, and promote fundamental scientific research and education. This resulted in the ongoing radical transformation of scientific education’s curriculum and instruction. Science courses, such as physics, have evolved from rote memorization of facts to an engaging, living discipline. In addition, the curriculum and instruction made science an accessible field.
