World Day of Fight against Sexual Exploitation 2023: Date, History, Facts

Human and genital trafficking is a filthy and dangerous multibillion-dollar industry that has existed in this world for decades.

Every year on March 4, the World Day of Fight Against Sexual Exploitation is celebrated. The primary purpose of the day is to unite the world against all forms of sexual exploitation. Did you know that approximately one in ten children are sexually abused before the age of eighteen? Yes, sexual exploitation destroys the lives of numerous men, women, and children across the globe, which is why it is essential to raise awareness and combat this vice. Every effort counts, and the first step is to end the silence that fosters an environment conducive to sexual exploitation.

HISTORY OF WORLD DAY OF FIGHT AGAINST SEXUAL EXPLOITATION

Human and genital trafficking is a filthy and dangerous multibillion-dollar industry that has existed in this world for decades. More than three million children are involved in prostitution, according to UNICEF, and nearly one million people are sexually exploited annually. This includes both young girls and women as well as young boys and men. Millions of individuals travel abroad to engage in sex tourism with young children. This has led to an increase in child prostitution throughout the world.

It is estimated that eight people are captured by international criminal networks every second of every day for sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and enslavement. The World Day of the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation aims to eliminate this. Sexual exploitation is one of the worst forms of abuse because it violates fundamental human rights such as the right to freedom, dignity, and control over one’s own body.

This issue is widespread, but it is especially prevalent in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. People who are trafficked from these countries are forced into prostitution in developed nations. The saddest aspect of this is that the majority of sexually abused children conceal the abuse because they have no one to turn to for assistance. And even when they do tell, they are frequently not believed, putting them at increased risk for emotional, psychological, social, and physical issues. Therefore, they choose to remain silent, which perpetuates the problem.
