World Nature Conservation Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about Concerning Conservation

In the past century, human activities have had a devastating effect on natural vegetation and other resources. Climate change and other environmental repercussions have resulted from the pursuit of accelerated industrialization and the felling of forest cover to accommodate a growing population.

World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated annually on July 28. This day emphasises the importance of preserving a healthy environment and natural resources for the preservation of a stable and healthy society. One of the primary objectives of World Nature Conservation Day is to save species that are threatened with extinction. In addition, the celebrations emphasise the preservation of natural elements such as flora, fauna, energy resources, soil, water, and oxygen. Moreover, World Nature Conservation Day emphasises the importance of preserving the environment for future generations. Therefore, it is our responsibility to leave a thriving planet for future generations to enjoy.

The background of World Nature Conservation Day

In the past century, human activities have had a devastating effect on natural vegetation and other resources. Climate change and other environmental repercussions have resulted from the pursuit of accelerated industrialization and the felling of forest cover to accommodate a growing population.

As much as environmental conservation awareness has increased in recent years, there is still a long way to go before positive actions bear fruit. In recent years, the need for environmental preservation has become more apparent. Human overexploitation of resources has resulted in erratic weather patterns, the devastation of wildlife habitats, the extinction of species, and a decline in biodiversity. Sadly, this is the worldwide norm. Organisations such as the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (I.U.C.N.) are crucial for this reason.

In its first decade of existence, the organisation investigated how human activities affected the natural world. It also encouraged the widespread adoption of environmental impact assessments across industries. In the 1960s and 1970s, the majority of IUCN’s efforts were focused on protecting species and their habitats. In 1964, the I.U.C.N. established the I.U.C.N. Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM, which is presently the most comprehensive data source on the risk of extinction of species on a global scale.

In the twenty-first century, the IUCN introduced ‘nature-based solutions.’ These actions conserve nature while addressing global issues such as climate change, food and water security, and poverty reduction. IUCN is presently the largest and most diverse environmental network in the world.
