Donyi Polo Airport Update: Donyi Polo Airport, also called Hollongi Airport or Itanagar Airport, is a recent green field airport in Arunachal Pradesh. Located 14 km south of the city center in Papum Pare district, Donyi Polo Airport has been built over an area of 320 hectares by the Airports Authority of India. This airport is the 16th in Northeast India. However, it is the fourth operational airport in Arunachal Pradesh. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the airport on February 9, 2019, the construction work started on December 15, 2020. However, the airport saw its finishing touch on November 19, 2022.

In addition to preventing the contamination of water bodies, the envelope of the building is influenced by the surrounding landscapes, and it features an insulated roof, glass facade, and wall panels to reduce energy consumption. It has a proportionate proportion of glazed and solid walls to maximize energy efficiency. The interior of the building is intended to exude a sense of tranquility to passengers by providing free-flowing spaces, a concealed service core, and a glass facade that connects the eye to the panoramic majesty of the Himalayan Foothills. Initially, a 125 kWp Solar Power plant was intended to generate renewable energy and reduce the airport’s carbon footprint. The building will adhere to GRIHA-IV standards, which are an energy-efficient building certification.
