This fast is celebrated for the longevity and well-being of their husbands. According to the Drik Panchang, Karwa Chauth is observed on Chaturthi Tithi which is the fourth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. All married women break their fast solely after offering Arghya to moon. The culture of applying Mehendi or henna is a main and necessary part of Karwa Chauth. In the Hindu culture, Mehendi is symbolic of good fortune for married women. Women apply Mehendi on their hands and toes on this special day of Karwa Chauth.
Sargi is considered to be the main phase of Karwa Chauth Day. Sargi is a special meal prepared which is eaten before daybreak It usually consists of seviyan or vermicelli, paranthas, fruits and all. Sargi tradition is not followed via all as this is in general followed via Punjabi community people. Women prepare delicious food on this day despite watching fast and the food is first offered to Chauth Mata.
