Story of Dev Deepavali

The Dev Deepawali festival is observed in Varanasi on the full moon of the Hindu month of Karthik, which is 15 days after Diwali. Tarakasuksha, Kamlashuksha, and Vidunmail are the three sons of the demon Tarakasura, according to Hindu mythology. Tarkasura’s three sons offered Lord Brahma their fullest devotion and obtained the blessing of immortality.

The blessing that just one arrow could kill them was also given to them by Lord Brahma as a result of cosmic law. They were blessed, but as soon as they did, they started acting destructively and making a mess here and there. With this knowledge, Lord Shiva made the decision to assume the shape of Tripurantaka, become his avatar, and slay all three of the asuras, or sons, with a single arrow in order to bring harmony and peace to the earth. A holiday called Dev Diwali honours Lord Shiva’s victory over Asura.

The Meaning and History of Dev Diwali

A demon by the name of Tripurasura (son of Tarakasura) committed crimes against both the inhabitants of Earth and the gods who resided in Heaven, according to the Shiva Purana. After successfully conquering the entire earth, Tripurasura built three cities in the cosmos called “Tripura.” The gods prayed to Lord Shiva to protect them from the demon after seeing this evil brutality. After then, Lord Shiva came to destroy Tripurasura in the shape of Triptantaka. Lord Shiva terminated Tripurasura’s existence on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima by destroying his three cities with a single arrow. In recognition of their triumph over the devil, gods and goddesses thus commemorate this day. Dev Diwali or Choti Deepavali is now observed.
