Masik Shivratri’s Significance

According to the Hindu calendar of India, the Masik Shivratri festival occurs every month of the year. People can create positive energy in their lives by taking part in Masik Shivratri, which provides a source of illumination. The day is regarded as the most fortunate one to worship Lord Shiva and ask for his blessings.

On this day, followers of Lord Shiva maintain a fast and make prayers to the Almighty by pouring milk and water on the Shivling. Additionally, flowers are used by devotees to beautify the shiv ling, and bilva patra is an important component of the rites.

Unmarried women pray on this day to find a husband like Lord Shiva, who is referred to as the “ideal husband,” while married women pray for their husbands’ happiness. In order to perform the Shiva Puja four times, it is also believed that the entire night may be divided into four prahars.

Shivaratri’s Mythological Importance and Background

The Hindu mythology is the foundation of the Masik Shivaratri narrative. The Puranas claim that a hunter by the name of Suswara once unintentionally murdered a pregnant deer. The deer asked the hunter to care for her young fawn and forgiven him as she took her last breath. Suswara, who was overcome with regret, took the deer in and reared it with love and kindness.

Suswara and the grown fawn came across a Shiva Lingam one day while exploring the jungle. It was hidden beneath a bilva tree. Unaware of its significance, Suswara made a gesture of kindness by giving the Lingam some water and bilva leaves. He had no idea how much this unintended devotional gesture on the holy night of Shivaratri pleased Lord Shiva.

Suswara was granted heavenly wisdom and salvation by Lord Shiva, who appeared in front of him and was moved by his accidental devotion and pure heart. Since that time, Masik Shivaratri has been a holy day when followers of Lord Shiva worship Him with the utmost reverence in order to receive His divine blessings and advance spiritually.

It is thought that keeping a fast (vrat) and carrying out particular rituals during Masik Shivaratri will result in peace, prosperity, and spiritual elevation. Here is a step-by-step instruction sheet for doing the Masik Shivaratri Vrat Vidhi:

5. Perform Abhishekam: As a purification and love symbol, pour milk or water over the Shiva Lingam. Rudrabhishekam is a ritual in which certain devotees bathe the Shiva Lingam with various holy ingredients.

6. Keep the Fast: On this day, some followers decide to keep a strict fast, forgoing all food and liquids. Others might follow a partial fast and eat basic foods like fruits, milk, and other foods.
