Like many inventions, Twinkies were born out of necessity; a strawberry shortage prompted Dewar to replace the strawberry cream in his strawberry shortcakes with banana cream, which later evolved into their own delectable invention: Twinkies!

Additionally, Twinkies are known for their extended shelf life. The earliest Twinkie that is still edible was produced in 1976. Bill Clinton placed a Twinkie in the Millenium Time Capsule in 1999, which will not be unsealed until the year 2100! However, the Twinkie was eliminated out of concern that rodents would consume it. After declaring insolvency in 2012, Apollo Global Management acquired Hostess in 2013, and Twinkies returned to the market, reclaiming its position as one of America’s favourite snacks.
