From seed to harvest, asparagus can take up to three years, but the plants will generate spears for decades, making it an excellent crop. However, it is extremely labor-intensive, as each spear is hand-picked by farmworkers. They meticulously excavate each projectile to a depth of nine inches and trim its base. That is a tremendous amount of effort!
Once considered a sacrifice to the gods, asparagus is still celebrated today. Oceana County, Michigan, held its 46th annual National Asparagus Festival in 2019. Asparagus is somewhat significant.
