It is believed that Brazil was the first country in the world to find cashews in the 1500s. It is believed that the word ‘cashew’ originated from the Tupi Indian word ‘Acaju,’ which means ‘a but.’ Due to the fact that the outer shell is composed of an irritating acid, it was initially believed that they were unable to be consumed by humans. Natives of Tupi-Indian tribes taught the Europeans that the acidic part of the fruit was the fruit skin rather than the seeds, and they also taught the Europeans how to roast cashews in order to prepare them for consumption.

In the 1900s, many different corporations, including Nestle, began mass producing chocolate with nuts such as cashews and peanuts. This chocolate quickly became a popular snack for people of all ages and demographics across the globe.
