The background of National S’mores Day

National S’mores Day’s origins are unknown, but this classic American camping delicacy has a long and delicious history. In the 1920s, Campfire Marshmallows, the original manufacturer of marshmallows and still in business, published a cookbook containing the first reference to such a confection. At that time, the recipe was referred to as a “Graham Cracker Sandwich,” implying that Boy- and Girl Scouts had already popularised the snack.

Later, in 1927, the Girl Scouts published a comparable recipe in “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts” under the name’some more.’ In the late 1930s to late 1950s, diverse recipes gave the s’mores their current name.

Original s’mores consist of one marshmallow, two squares of milk chocolate, and two graham crackers.
