Guru Nanak Jayanti 2022: Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak’s birthday is commemorated as Guru Nanak Jayanti. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, this occurs on the day of Kartika Purnima.

The Guru Nanak Jayanti Legend

Nanak Dev Guru Association for National Education The anniversary of Guru Nanak Sahib occurs on this auspicious day, also known as Abhishek Utsav of Guru Nanak. However, the organization’s initial representatives were founded on the new moon day of the Kartik month, in accordance with the Hindu solar calendar. Guru Nanak Jayanti is often observed in November.

The whole Sikh community participates in rangar on this day by visiting adjacent Gurdwaras (lunch). Two weeks before the actual anniversary, a Sikh starts to celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti. The Vikrami calendar states that Guru Nanak Sahib was born at Talwandi, Raiboidi, in 1469.

The Gurudwara Sahib (Sikh flag) and Palki are then carried in a procession by the five respected versions of the Sikh Guru Pyaras (cherry tree from which Guru Grant Sahib was born). In support of the formation, various musicians are singing holy hymns. During this Sikh festival, “Gatka” detachments show off excellent swordsmanship using a variety of martial arts and simulated pistol warfare.

Guru Nanak Jayanti’s Story

According to the Hindu calendar, this event is observed on Kartik His Purnima, which is his fifteenth lunar day in the month of Kartik, and is often observed on his Purnima according to the Gregorian calendar. Either October or November will be the time. With the exception of the hymns, all Sikhs celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti in a manner that is essentially similar. Prabhat Pheris generally kicks off celebrations. The Prabhat Pheris is a hymn-singing procession that starts at the Gurudwaras and circles the area in the early morning. His Akhand pass, which involves reading the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib for 48 uninterrupted hours, is customarily conducted in the “Gurdwaras” two days before his birthday.

Guru Nanak Jayanti Celebrations

A Nagarkirtan procession is planned for the day before the birthday. The Panj Pyaras are in charge of this procession (Five Beloved Ones). They lead the parade while carrying the Nishan Sahib and Palki (Palanquin) of Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh flag. Teams of singers shouting hymns and followers singing the chorus follow them.

Brass bands play a variety of music, and “Gatka” teams use traditional weaponry to stage simulated battles and demonstrate their swordsmanship through a variety of martial arts. The happy procession moves through streets festooned with flowers and flags as its leader proclaims Guru Nanak’s teachings.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on April 15, 1469, in Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, which is now Pakistan’s Sekhpura district and is close to Lahore. On the site of his birth, a Gurudwara was erected; the city, Nankana Sahib, is in Pakistan’s Punjab state. Sikhism was started in the 15th century by a spiritual leader known as Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He began the Guru Granth Sahib, which has 974 hymns.
