In 1993, the Endometriosis Association established Endometriosis Awareness Month. What began as a modest campaign is now observed globally.
On March 1, during Endometriosis Awareness Month, we observe Endometriosis Awareness Day. Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease that affects women when tissue begins to grow outside the uterus. This tissue is identical to that which lines the interior of the womb. Although there are numerous studies on this condition at present, there is still no cure, and awareness is a major issue. Endometriosis Awareness Month and Day are dedicated to raising awareness and promoting research for a cure. They are also intended to combat the stigma of infertility associated with Endometriosis.
In 1993, the Endometriosis Association established Endometriosis Awareness Month. What began as a modest campaign is now observed globally. These campaigns consist of fund-raising efforts, educational events, and marches. The Endometriosis Association promotes the cause by providing information and assistance to individuals with the condition, as well as by distributing yellow ribbons.
Endometriosis affects one in ten American women and an estimated 200 million women worldwide. Despite these alarming numbers, there is little awareness of this condition, and it is frequently misdiagnosed. According to the Endometriosis Foundation of America, a lack of education and awareness about the disease is a significant barrier to detection. The condition is characterised by painful menstrual cycles, abdominal pain, irregular menstrual cycles, and excessive pain during intercourse. Frequently, these symptoms are misdiagnosed. More people are becoming aware of the condition as a result of the efforts of participating organisations, the medical community, and the civil society. However, more knowledge is still required, particularly regarding early diagnosis and treatment.
Early detection and intervention can provide patients with the opportunity to treat symptoms before they become unmanageable and necessitate surgery. Endometriosis is associated with an increased risk of infertility in women. Uncertain is the mechanism by which Endometriosis directly causes infertility.
