Plato and Aristotle were prominent figures in the ancient field of philosophy, from which psychology evolved. These philosophers speculated on a variety of topics, such as why people conduct the way they do, the meaning of life, etc.
The 12th of May is National Mental Health Provider Appreciation Day, which recognises and honours the contributions of mental healthcare professionals across the United States. Some spend every week lying on a couch and discussing their trauma and sadness, while others spend weeks and months in their care gently healing their mind and emotions, and others visit them swiftly to make an informed life choice. These individuals help us make sense of our tumultuous lives and instruct us on how to deal with our pasts so that we may move forward. Thank you to the mental health professionals who assist us in organising our jumbled thoughts.
Plato and Aristotle were prominent figures in the ancient field of philosophy, from which psychology evolved. These philosophers speculated on a variety of topics, such as why people conduct the way they do, the meaning of life, etc. Throughout the years, philosophy has paved the way for psychology and then psychiatry.
Sigmund Freud (Father of Psychoanalysis), Wilhelm Wundt (Father of Psychology), Ivan Pavlov, and Carl R. Rogers are some of the most well-known figures in the field. Four out of every five adults (over the age of 18) have a diagnosable mental illness, and many more experience fleeting bouts of mental illness throughout their lifetimes.
Prior to a few decades ago, stigma and taboo surrounded mental health. Mental illness-related exclusion from social circles and stigmatisation are still quite prevalent in some communities. Mental health professionals around the globe have assisted individuals in overcoming their traumas, anxieties, and insecurities, thereby enabling them to live improved lives. As a result of their dedication, people are learning more about their mental health and how to better manage it, leading to happier and more tranquil lives.

At least half of the population will experience mental health issues during their lifetimes.
There are fewer mental health professionals in the world, which can be attributed to increased demand and a decline in the number of young people entering the field.
It is difficult to diagnose mental illness because individuals frequently refuse to seek assistance.
As of 2020, 74% of mental health professionals are female, while only 24% are male.
