The final diagnosis is made by a board-certified anatomical pathologist based on the P.A's exhaustive gross examination and tissue submission for microscopic evaluation.
Pathologists’ Assistants Day is observed annually on April 14. In the pathology laboratory, PAs are undervalued and do not receive the recognition they merit. Therefore, this day is celebrated annually to recognise their contributions to accurate diagnosis and improved patient care. A P.A. is a trained health worker who provides numerous services under the direction and supervision of a pathologist. Southeastern Pathological Association sanctuaries are academically and practically trained to manage laboratory specimens with precision and promptness.
The final diagnosis is made by a board-certified anatomical pathologist based on the P.A’s exhaustive gross examination and tissue submission for microscopic evaluation. Eugene A. Stead is considered to be the profession’s progenitor. In 1965, he established the first formal P.A. education programme at Duke University. Thomas D. Kinney and Duke University initiated the first formal university-based pathologist assistant training programme in 1969. To date, 14 recognised programmes have been established in the United States and Canada.
The American Society for Clinical Pathology (A.S.C.P.) is a professional organisation based in Chicago. The A.S.C.P., founded in 1922, provides education, certification, and advocacy for patients, pathologists, and laboratory professionals. Pathologists’ assistants are required to pass the A.S.C.P. examination.
The American Association of Pathologists Assistants was founded by its founders on April 14, 1972. This association was formed to promote the mutual integration of trained pathologists and to advance the pathologist profession by promoting ethical behaviour in the profession, promoting the education of pathologist assistants, and educating the public and the health care sector about the role of a professional pathologist’s assistant. Since its inception, A.A.P.A. has grown to over 2,100 members with its five founding progenitors.
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science has awarded the greatest number of degrees in pathology assistant.
The American Medical Association had 21,291 pathologists in practise.
The average annual salary of a personal assistant ranges between $60,000 and $90,000.
Pathologist assistants may be quality control technicians, pathologists, senior managers, or technical medical writers.
In 2004, the A.A.P.A. collaborated with the A.S.C.P. to achieve national accreditation for Pathologist Assistants.
