The background of National I Love Horses Day

National I Love Horses Day was established to recognise the animal’s significance in human history and evolution. Horses have existed for approximately 50 million years, and nomads domesticated them in 4000 B.C. It is believed that the animal originated in North America, but increased travel and globalisation have brought it to other continents. These ancient horse varieties eventually became extinct on the North American continent. According to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System, there are numerous other horse varieties today, but all of them, including feral horses, are believed to be descended from Equus caballus. Horses have a vision range of 350 degrees and are highly social. They roam with members of their own species and other creatures. In addition, their socialisation skills make them simple to propagate.

Historically, domesticated horses were raised for their flesh and milk. In the steppes of central Asia, where horses are still maintained for food, the animal was a significant source of sustenance. In some cultures, fermented mare’s milk was consumed as an intoxicating beverage. As human populations grew and commercialization began, horses came to be used for land cultivation and other general agricultural tasks. Horses were also used to transport products and people over long and short distances because of their strength and stamina. Over the years, horse racing and show-jumping competitions have also acquired public interest.
